WHY I COACH

Learning to see my own story.

When I began my own MBA application journey through MLT MBA Prep, I experienced firsthand how transformative great coaching can be.

My coach helped me uncover stories that had always been part of my life but that I had never stopped to examine closely. Like most people, I was busy moving forward: making decisions, pursuing opportunities, and overcoming challenges. I wasn’t necessarily stopping to ask why I had made those choices, what those experiences had taught me, or how they had shaped the person I was becoming.

The MBA application process gave me a rare opportunity to do that.

With the help of extraordinary friends, mentors, and coaches, I began connecting experiences that had previously felt separate. I understood more clearly what mattered to me, what had shaped my decisions, and what I hoped to accomplish next.

That process changed far more than my application.

As a first-generation college student, I had never imagined that I would one day attend both Harvard Business School and Harvard Kennedy School. I didn’t grow up knowing people who had taken that path, and for a long time, programs like HBS felt out of reach. Other people first helped me recognize that possibility and then pushed me to tell my story honestly enough to pursue it.

Creating that space for others.

True North MBA is my way of creating that same space for others.

I believe the MBA application process can be one of the rare moments in life when we stop moving forward long enough to look backward.

  • Why did you make the decisions you made?
  • Which experiences changed you?
  • What do you care deeply about?
  • What kind of impact do you want to have?
  • Where is your path leading next?

Those questions are at the heart of my coaching.

The goal is to build an outstanding MBA application. But I hope clients leave the process with something more lasting: a clearer understanding of who they are, what matters to them, and where they want to go.

THE PROFESSIONAL THROUGH-LINE

A career can take
more than one direction.

A career does not have to be perfectly linear to have a powerful through-line.

Lucas earned a joint MBA and MPP from Harvard Business School and Harvard Kennedy School. A first-generation college and graduate student, he has built a career across government, strategy consulting, social impact, technology, and sports.

He worked at The Bridgespan Group and served as Transportation and Infrastructure Director for Congressman Seth Moulton. He later worked at WSC Sports in strategy, partnerships, growth, and innovation.

While at HBS, Lucas supported admissions outreach through the Latino Student Organization and helped prospective students better understand the admissions process.
